Board of Health

About

The Allegany County Board of Health is composed of the Allegany County Commissioners and Health Officer. The purpose of having a Board of Health in place in each county is to provide a more efficient means of promoting public health throughout Maryland. The legal basis for the establishment of county Boards of Health can be found in the Annotated Code of Maryland under Health-General § 3-201.

The Allegany County Board of Health meets twice a year and may meet at other times if necessary. Meetings are held at the Allegany County Health Department.

Purpose

The Board exists to:

  • Provide local leadership and oversight on public health matters

  • Promote efficient and effective delivery of public health services

  • Support the health and wellbeing of county residents

  • Address emerging community health concerns and priorities

Meetings

The Board of Health typically meets twice a year and may schedule additional meetings as needed to address urgent health matters or ongoing public health initiatives. Meetings are usually held at the Allegany County Health Department.
