Planning & Zoning
Planning and Zoning performs a vital role in creating and communicating a vision of the County and acts as the primary coordinating agency in the development, adoption, and implementation of the County’s land use plans and policies.
The Department of Public Works affects the lives of Allegany County residents everyday. This department is responsible for public water and public sewer lines, wastewater treatment plants, county owned roads and bridges, recycling and solid waste activities, and public transportation services.

The Tax and Utility Office bills and collects real estate, personal property, corporation, and public utility accounts for Allegany County, the State of Maryland, three municipalities, and 30 special taxing districts.

Allegany County Transit serves Allegany County, Maryland with affordable, efficient, and courteous public transportation service. The Transit operates a fixed route bus system and Alltrans, a demand response and ADA Paratransit in Allegany County, Maryland.
The Utilities Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water distribution systems, the wastewater collection systems, and the wastewater treatment systems in Allegany County.
