Allegany County Celebrates Community Champions at 2nd Annual Positive People Awards Luncheon
CUMBERLAND, MD — On Tuesday, April 29, Allegany County Government proudly hosted the 2nd Annual Positive People Awards Luncheon, celebrating the extraordinary individuals who embody the spirit of service, kindness, and community.
This special event honored local heroes nominated by members of the public—people who go above and beyond every day without seeking recognition. These are the volunteers, nonprofit leaders, and quiet champions who uplift their neighbors and contribute meaningfully to the well-being of Allegany County.
Each honoree was invited to bring guests and was surprised at the event by the person who nominated them. During the luncheon, the nominators’ heartfelt words were read aloud, giving attendees a glimpse into the inspiring impact of each winner. Honorees were then invited to say a few words before receiving an engraved wooden plaque and an official citation from the Allegany County Commissioners.
The event was graciously emceed and sponsored by Rick Rando of Rando Speaks—an inaugural Positive People Award winner and longtime advocate for community involvement. In his motivational remarks, Master Rando reminded the audience: “You’ll find what you look for. If you look for positivity, you’ll find it. If you look for negativity, you’ll find that too. Go out, get involved, and look for the tremendous amount of good that is in our community.”
This year’s honorees include:
Leading by Example in Business
| Coty Forno – Mountain City Center for the Arts | Mindy Wilkinson – She’s So Pretty Boutique |
Non-Profit Excellence
| Mike Kerns – Santa for Seniors |

| Rick Stevenson - "Jack Frost" | Bucky Shriver |

The Positive People Awards have quickly become a beloved annual tradition, leaving guests feeling inspired and renewed. Allegany County extends sincere thanks to Rick Rando for his continued support, and to every community member who took the time to nominate a neighbor or friend.
Nominations for the 2026 awards will open in March.
As this initiative continues to grow, it remains a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make—and the strength we build when we celebrate and support one another.
