Public Meeting Scheduled: Bel Air Water

2025 News Flash Posted on October 02, 2025

The Allegany County Commissioners will host a public meeting on Bel Air Water on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Allegany County Fairgrounds Multipurpose Building.
Members of our state and federal delegation, along with representatives from American Water Service, the prospective new owner of the Bel Air system, will be present.
We understand the heavy burden that high and unsustainable water bills place on residents. This is a complex issue with no quick fix, but we are continuing to monitor developments and advocate for relief where possible. We encourage residents to join us for this important discussion and to bring creative ideas and suggestions that can be added to the list of options as the system changes hands.
Background:
▪️At this time, Maryland Water Service is in the process of selling. Legal action by the County is still being considered, but several factors make it a very complicated option without a clear result.
▪️American Water Service, while willing to listen, does not yet have detailed information on this specific line within their larger purchase and cannot make commitments at this stage.
▪️Extending County-funded water and sewer service would cost tens of millions of dollars—resources that are not available and would not qualify for state assistance, since residents technically already have access to water and sewer.
