ALLEGANY COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
Allegany County is beginning the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is an official policy document adopted by the Board of County Commissioners that establishes a vision and recommendations to guide future growth, development, and quality of life in the County. It addresses a wide range of topics, including economic development, land use, housing, transportation, community facilities, infrastructure, environmental resources, and more.
The update will follow Maryland Department of Planning guidance for comprehensive planning, incorporating best practices and statutory requirements to ensure alignment with state objectives while addressing local priorities. The plan will serve as a framework for county policies, investment decisions, and community initiatives for the next decade and beyond.
The Allegany County Department of Planning and Zoning, with guidance from the Planning Commission, is leading this important initiative.
A key part of developing a Comprehensive Plan that reflects the needs and priorities of Allegany County is community input. The County is encouraging residents, business owners, workers, and other community members to participate in this important effort to guide the future growth and development of Allegany County. Community feedback will help ensure the Comprehensive Plan reflects the needs, values, and priorities of those who live and work here.
Updates regarding the comprehensive plan will be made regularly at Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, which are open to the public. Additional public engagement opportunities will be made available throughout the plan update process and announced via media release.
