Allegany County Department of Economic & Community Development is excited to announce a multi-year lease agreement for a 40,000 sq ft facility in the Barton Business Park with Geocycle, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Holcim US.  The lease will allow Geocycle to establish a new state of the art preprocessing facility in the Mid Atlantic region that will serve the needs of industrial customers in the area, and reinforce their commitment to transition toward a more integrated circular economy.

“We’re excited to welcome Geocycle to Allegany County,” says Dave Caporale, Allegany County Commission President. “Welcoming a new business is always great, but we are thrilled to be introducing a business who offers sustainable solutions to create cleaner and healthier communities, promote circular models, and reduce carbon footprint. Special thanks to our Economic Development team for their work on this.”

The new Geocycle facility in Cumberland will process up to 75,000 tons per year of off-spec products, and other residuals from industrial or manufacturing operations, producing high quality alternative fuels. This project will generate up to ten highly qualified direct jobs and up to 30 indirect jobs.

“Geocycle is paving the way to increase the use of alternative energy in the US while helping customers repurpose their industrial by-products into alternative fuel” said Sophie Wu, Head of Geocycle, North America. “This new Geocycle facility will allow us to support Allegany County’s sustainability goals and create job opportunities for local communities while better serving our customers in the Mid-Atlantic region.”

“Geocycle is part of an international conglomerate that could have chosen to set up shop just about anywhere here in  the Mid-Atlantic States, but they chose Allegany County,” says Jeff Barclay, Allegany County Department of Economic & Community Development Director. “Having a ready 40,000 square foot building close to alternative fuel users was also a key deciding factor for Geocycle. In addition to the job component, this location is expected to generate a substantial annual tax base for Allegany County.”

Geocycle is planning to begin upgrading the facility with new equipment by August. Operations are expected to begin by the end of this year. Future job postings will be available to view at www.Holcim.us/careers
