PUBLIC NOTICE   

Transit Funding

Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held Monday, May 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM in Room 100 of the County Office Complex, at 701 Kelly Road, Cumberland, Maryland, concerning the assistance requested by the Allegany County Commissioners from the Federal Transit Administration and the Maryland Transit Administration.  The funding assistance requested is to be used by Allegany County Transit to meet the public transportation needs of the general public, senior citizens, and disabled individuals of Allegany County.

Capital requests will fund our Preventive Maintenance Program, New Digital Radios, a replacement service vehicle for transit operations, a 2,000-gallon fuel tank, and a lift gate for the shop truck.  The total capital request is $554,000, of which $443.200 is requested in Federal and State funds.  Local sources will fund the remainder.

Operational assistance funds are being requested through Section 5311, Statewide Special Transportation Assistance, and the Maryland Transit Administration as outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act Grants. The program's total net operating cost is estimated at $2,420,375, of which $1,945,375 is requested in Federal and State funds. Any remainder is to be funded by local sources.
