Allegany County receives 5.5% of the slot revenues generated from the casino operation at Rocky Gap. This fiscal year, that amount is estimated to total $2,687,939.



When slots gaming was established in Allegany County, so was the Local Development Council. This committee oversees the management of slot proceeds that funnel back into the County, ensuring that funds are spent according to the disbursement plan. The roadmap for fund allocations is as follows:



$10,000 allocated for first responders who respond to an incident at Rocky Gap Casino

20% to Municipalities & Non-Profit Organizations in Allegany County for Capital Projects

17% to the Allegany College of Maryland Scholarship Fund ($360,000 cap)

9.25% to the Frostburg State University Scholarship Fund ($200,000 cap)

4% to the Board of Educations for Capital Projects ($80,000 cap)

4% to the Allegany County for Capital Projects ($80,000 cap)

2.25% for Ballistic Vests for Local Law Enforcement Agencies ($50,000 cap)

39.5% to Fire Companies - Divided Evenly. ($865,939 cap)

4% to remain unallocated and awarded annually. ($250,000 cap)

$100,000 allocated to Rocky Gap Casino Resort for a Shuttle Service to Canal Place

Any remainder is to be awarded as grants at the end of the fiscal year.



While the year end accounting is not yet final, the 2024 disbursements (totaling approximately $2,687,939) are estimated to be as follows:

$537,587 to Municipalities & Non-Profit Organizations in Allegany County for Capital Projects.

$360,000 to the Allegany College of Maryland Scholarship Fund

$50,000 for Ballistic Vests for Local Law Enforcement Agencies

$250,000 to Allegany County EMS

$100,000 to Rocky Gap Casino Resort for a Shuttle Service to Canal Place

$150,000 to be awarded as grants to local organizations, based on the discretion of committee members.



This year, the Capital Projects Grant for Municipality and Non-Profits is funded at $537,587. A sub-committee of the Local Development Council will review all requests and award funds based on a variety of factors, including community impact and need. As a reminder, awarded funds must be used on capital related expenditure for municipalities and nonprofits only.
